When you are busy it is always the jobs that no-one nags you about that fall off the list isn't it?
No-one nags me about my blog. Well Mum (aka my number one fan) sometimes reminds me that I haven't posted in a while and my friend Kelly (
aka crumbmaker) has reminded me a couple of times about a post on substituting yarn that I rashly promised to write. (still on the to-do list)
Anyway I am stealing five minutes for a cup of coffee and a quick catch up with the blogs and a post of my own.
I have been busy as always with deadline knitting and crochet that I can't share - I've been making for Yarnwise, Artesano and a new magazine in the past week or so.
The new magazine is very exciting, when I first got involved with it they were still using a code word for it and it was super top secret but now they have announced it. Future Publishing who publish our fave mags,
The Simple Things, Mollie Makes, Simply Knitting and
The Knitter are launching a new* crochet magazine in January called
Simply Crochet. It looks absolutely lovely and I am really proud and excited to have some of my designs included in it (from issue 2 I think). They are doing a special offer of
£5 for the first 3 issues and if you sign up by Dec 19th you'll start from issue 1.
(* they have occasionally published a collection of crochet projects featured in Simply Knitting under this title before but this will be a 13 times a year publication)
Magazines have been asking their designers for New Years Knitting Resolutions. I thought I had done really badly on my last years ones and was a bit taciturn in my responses. But actually when I checked back to my
blog post I find that I have achieved them all except the "knit something for myself" one. Figures.
On the home front: I have had a very poorly little boy (first time I've taken a child to the out of hours doctor) but he is much brighter and smiling again today
Yesterdays work hours were completely lost to cuddles on the sofa, being thrown up on and calpol dispensing. I have to remind myself that it is for just this reason that I wanted to be a freelancer so I didn't have to worry about the school holidays teacher training days and sick days. The reality is a bit different, I will still meet the deadlines but I am not 100% sure how - sleep is for wimps, right?.
Next week holds some excitement in store. I will be casting on for a project that I submitted and designed absolutely ages ago but is now nearing deadline. Its to go in a multi-designer book curated by
Alex Tinsley with the theme "what will you knit after an apocalypse" its obviously rather tongue in cheek and draws influences from lots of great movies and books. It's going to be such a fun book and I can't wait to see it all brought together.
Kat Goldin and I have been scheming together on a very special project with some other great designers. This moves into its next phase next week. We aren't quite ready to announce it all yet but I will keep you posted on here and you can follow
@TheCrochetProj on twitter if you want to get the first scoops.
I'll also be meeting up with a Cambridge University lichen expert to see how he can become involved in a crochet and knitting project I am running in conjunction with the
CamCityWI, the
Cambridge University Botanic Gardens and
The Sheep Shop - self-employment can be so wonderfully diverse at times.
Anyway - I have had more than my allotted five minutes. I WILL speak to you soon. I know this because I have something to promote! I will be offering a special discount code just for my blog readers.
