RSI and getting fit

On the last day of last year the lovely postman arrived with a delivery for me. Over sister I saw my sister and she was looking AMAZING she'd lost tons of weight but better than that was looking so toned and lithe and really really well and full of energy. She has two small boys so that is a pretty big achievement! Now I obviously wanted to know her secret and she recommended me this DVD.

I was pretty sceptical about this but being as amazon were knocking them out for £5 a pop I decided to give it a go and all this month I have been setting an alarm and getting up half an hour earlier three to four times a week so I can do the DVD before I start the day.

Its pretty intense and after day 3 I thought I would need my own personal sherpa to carry me up and down stairs and ideally laugh for me too (that hurt a lot and I do like to laugh!) But I very quickly saw results and so carried on and I have seen my fitness levels improve a lot and my body is starting to look rather toned (for me) I've lost two inches off my hips, one and a half inches off my waist, and inch off my bust and half an inch off my thighs. Pretty good going on a UK size 14 body without dieting! (Being as I am doing the low fodmap reintroductions phase with a dietician I didn't think weight loss dieting was a good idea right now) I have ordered a couple more DVDs by the same lady so I dont get bored and plan to carry on.

The best result has been that all the weight bearing exercises on my arms have strengthened my shoulder muscles and all the supporting muscles in my arm and improved the RSI I was getting from knitting and crochet. Over Christmas I had to stop knitting and crocheting completely as a particular yarn/project combo left me weeping with pain. Obviously when you make your living from it, this was scary stuff. Although it is still slightly sore after prolonged periods I've noticed that the length of time I can work before I feel it twinge has improved  - even better than before the injury happened. I'm sure it must be to do with the improved fitness levels.

DISCLAIMER: despite me raving on about this DVD like some kind of crazed advertorial I did not receive any compensation for this post!

  1. You make me laugh - I attempted a Davina DVD last week and couldn't walk for three days ... I've heard of "the shread" but haven't been so brave - you're inspiring me! Am very very impressed with 30 minutes earlier in the morning ...

  2. Wow, I so admire your self-control and ability to follow through on this. Getting up early is a very hard thing to do ... and it's obviously paying off. Great news too about the RSI improvement. (December was a bad month for me too in that regard.) Keep up the good work!

    1. Getting up early is more brutal than the workout but it is no fun with three little watchers - I tried that too.
Hope your RSI improves, its a bit of an occupational hazard and so scary.

  3. Agh, you got me and I've bought it too! I'd like to lose a little weight, but mostly I'd just like to not feel like I'm dying if I run for the bus… Are you carrying on with the Shred after January, or are you changing to different plans by her?
