This month is back to back tech editing, with a couple of small crochet commissions and a huge designed but needs to be made motif based commission. I am all motifed out (That is SO totally a word spell checker! Believe me, I am feeling it!) so I decided I needed to take a break. So what do I do when I need a break? Knit of course!
I have been very naughty and in a moment of weakness opened my Christmas present from Sarah at The Sheep Shop. A gorgeous shining skein of John Arbon Exmoor Sock in Heather. She has seen me stroking it longingly and decided to treat me! THANK YOU SARAH!! Well it was wound into a ball within about 2 minutes of opening and I knew I fancied turning it into a shawl. As this is selfish, relaxing knitting I also knew that I would be treating myself to a pattern that someone else had written and I knew that I wanted to knit something by Karina Westerman as I met her in the summer, I admire her style and know that she produces well thought through patterns with lace motifs that flow effortlessly into one another. Just my kind of relaxing knitting. I chose Karise as my favourite and cast on. I am zipping through the easy to follow pattern and thoroughly enjoying not having to think!
Yesterday was also a day off and I had lots of fun with Nicola of Halfpenny Home but more about that next week.

That's such a pretty colour, I can see why you admired it so much - it sounds too as though you rightly deserve a bit of selfish knitting.
ReplyDeleteIts even nicer in real life and such a joy to knit with, I highly recommend.
Deleteooo Karise is a gorgeous pattern. In fact all of Karina's are, I'm enjoying looking through them. Enjoy your indulgent knitting :-)
ReplyDeleteAren't they? I decided to limit myself to one of Karie's as I have long admired them and thought there was plenty to choose from. If you don't set yourself some boundaries you can end up frozen by too much choice.
DeleteWow, lovely yarn, lovely colour, lovely pattern. SO relaxing to follow someone else's directions! :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Saw your gorgeous Gnarled Bark hat in Inside Crochet at the bookstore tonight - so beautiful!
Thank you - Gnarled Bark is possibly my favourite pattern so far. I love a nice lacy beret.
DeleteYummy present and fab shawl - it's going straight into my faves. I can just see you in it - enjoy.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm a little sad I wasn't there to help you enjoy your day off ...
You are much missed on my days off. But one day I shall enjoy a whole week off with you I'm sure.
DeleteHope you had a relaxing day off! I think I may be knitting the same shawl but you are way further on than me :-) The yarn looks delicious
ReplyDeleteI have just completed the first lace repeat so have done about 84 rows and have 45 rows left - they keep getting longer though and the lace will slow me down a lot so I'm probably about half way there. (trying to stop myself work out the number of stitches!)
